Not Financial Advice
BudgetWise is an educational tool designed to help you explore the 50/30/20 budgeting framework. Nothing on this website constitutes financial advice, investment advice, tax advice, or any other form of professional financial guidance. The information provided is general in nature and does not take into account your individual circumstances, financial situation, needs, or goals.
Tax Estimates Are Approximations
The after-tax income estimates shown in BudgetWise are calculated using simplified tax bracket models and are intended as a guide only. They may not reflect your actual tax liability. In particular:
- Australian estimates use the 2025–26 individual income tax rates and a flat 2% Medicare Levy. They do not account for the Medicare Levy Surcharge, Low Income Tax Offset (LITO), Low and Middle Income Tax Offset (LMITO), private health insurance rebates, or other offsets and deductions.
- US estimates use 2025 federal income tax rates for a single filer. They do not account for state income taxes, the standard deduction, itemised deductions, credits, or alternative minimum tax.
- FICA/payroll tax estimates (Social Security and Medicare) are approximations based on the standard employee rate and do not account for self-employment tax, additional Medicare tax for high earners, or employer contributions.
- Compulsory superannuation contributions (Australia) are not included in the income or tax calculations shown — they are paid separately by your employer.
For an accurate calculation of your tax obligations, consult the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), or a registered tax professional.
The 50/30/20 Framework Is a Guideline
The 50/30/20 rule is a popular and widely-cited personal finance framework, but it is not a universal standard or a guaranteed path to financial health. Individual circumstances — including housing costs, family size, debt obligations, income stability, and personal goals — vary enormously. What works for one person may not work for another. BudgetWise encourages you to adapt any budgeting framework to suit your own situation and to seek personalised advice where appropriate.
No Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, BudgetWise and its operators disclaim all liability for any loss, damage, cost, or expense — whether direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential — arising from your use of or reliance on any information, estimates, or calculations provided by this tool. Your use of BudgetWise is entirely at your own risk.

Seek Professional Advice
Before making significant financial decisions — including investment choices, superannuation strategies, mortgage decisions, or major changes to your spending and savings — we strongly recommend consulting a qualified financial adviser licensed by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) or the relevant regulatory body in your country.
